Terry Winters, Scattering Conditions, 9, 1998
From the Cleveland Museum of Art:

One of the most prominent abstract artists working today, Winters explores imagery culled from a vast array of sources in the real world, such as microscopic views of insects, weather radar patterns, topographic maps, computer graphics, and architectural plans. With an equally dizzying assortment of graphic media, he layers patterns distilled from these varied sources, carefully building up each drawing until it has achieved the desired density. Scattering Conditions, 9 is related to a series of works whose spatial structure is articulated by an overall grid. Circles that hover along the lines seem like notes in a musical composition, at times hushed, staccato, or cacophonous.
